When you don’t have enough bedrooms in your home for all of your kids, you’ll inevitably have a shared kids bedroom. Unfortunately, it can be challenging to decorate the same space for two children, especially if they are very different from one another. With the design tips and ideas below, though, you can really make the most of this situation and make everyone involved very happy with the results.

Make the Beds Different | Your kids will be sharing the same space, which means they will be sharing the same paint colour on the walls, the same décor, and the same furniture. One of the best ways to allow each child’s uniqueness to shine through, therefore, is by focusing on making each bed unique. Have your kids determine what design they want for their bed, whether they want a classic colour, a superhero theme, a fun print, or an animal print. No matter what they choose, a 100 cotton duvet cover is an ideal option that will be comfortable and durable.

Stick with White Furniture | A great neutral colour, white will grow with your kids so that you don’t end up constantly revamping the colour scheme in the shared bedroom. If you stick with white furniture, though, make sure you add pops of colour with the accessories and décor throughout the space. A throw rug, pillows on the beds, lamps, artwork, and linens can all play their part in incorporating colour in the room.

Use Storage to Set Two Separate Spaces | One large bedroom can actually be divided into two separate spaces with the use of furniture. A perfect option is a large shelf that you can build yourself and set into place. With open shelving, you can easily divide the shared room without having to close off any part of the bedroom completely. You can even purchase a pre-made shelf and then paint it in a colour that will complement the rest of the design scheme in the room.

Add Bunk Beds to Smaller Rooms | If the shared kids bedroom that you’re working with is quite small, you can add fun bunk beds to the space rather than having two separate twin beds. This will allow you to save some much-needed floor space while giving each child a comfortable and private place to sleep.

Use a Dresser Instead of Nightstands | Rather than using two separate nightstands, you can instead place a longer dresser in between the two beds in the room. Each child will have plenty of storage in the drawers, as well as space on the surface of the dresser for their lamps, alarm clocks, and various trinkets and décor. This is also an ideal option for tighter spaces where less furniture is necessary to maintain enough space.

These are just a few of the design ideas that you can easily incorporate into any shared kids bedroom to achieve fantastic results that your children will love. Have fun, and be sure to involve your kids in the design process so that their unique personalities and tastes can shine through.
